Vendor and technology decisions
How do I know if a software proposal is too complicated for what I need?
Ask the vendor to explain the proposed solution in plain language and tie every major component to a business requirement. If the architecture, tools, or services cannot be connected to a real need, challenge them. Complexity should solve a problem, not make the proposal look impressive.
What to check
- Can every major component be tied to a requirement?
- Is there a simpler way to meet the same need?
- Are ongoing costs and maintenance clear?
